Surreal: Banking “Excellence” Awards Held In Lebanon Last Night
This is so insane we’re going to have to create a new category for it, because WTF no longer cuts it.
Apparently in Lebanon, when you run an entire sector into the ground, lend corrupt governments against best practices, withhold depositors’ money, and play a role in the bankruptcy of an entire state, you don’t get jail time, you get EXCELLENCE AWARDS.
The folks over at the Union of Arab Banks spared no expense celebrating their non-achievements! There was a seated dinner, a massive cake, and even a singer we’ve never seen before. Oh, and of course there was a troupe that was happily dancing the dabke while dressed in traditional Lebanese sherwel. If they wanted to really make it an authentic traditional experience, the Lebanese bankers should have ditched their fancy suits and dressed up like the hamburglar.
To make matters even more laughable, the entire event was hosted at Casino du Liban.
Lord, grant us the confidence of these bankers.
