Minister of Interior Prohibits Pride Events
In the country where people are plagued by every social and economic issue under the sun, the Lebanese Minister of Interior in Lebanon’s caretaker government Bassam Mawlawi has put out a circular prohibiting events “promoting homosexuality”.
The circular comes ahead of the highly anticipated Pride events which get cancelled every year.
A group of online users have been circulating a message on WhatsApp and Facebook requesting the crackdown on LGBTQ+ events around Lebanon. As people wait in queues for bread and struggle to make ends meet amid a financial and economic crisis, Mawlawi felt it necessary to tackle this matter
We reiterate our support to Lebanon’s LGBTQ+ community and their right to celebrate.
