University season is starting yet again for many around the country, so we thought we’d give you these 12 essential tips to make your first week as good as can be.
1. Optimize your bag
Although it may seem like you need every book ever created, two laptops, a stack of papers, different sizes of notebooks, and a first aid kit in your bag, try to tone it down to the bare minimum for a smoother experience. Your back will thank you!
2. Attend class?
Only if you feel like it.
3. Pick your designated study spot
It’s important that you get this done early, pick the spot and if anyone tries to approach, fight them off with everything you have. Don’t be afraid to bite.
4. Reach out to people
If you don’t feel like biting, why not make your study spot a study group? You’ll find the best and worst people you can imagine at uni, just pick the right ones and you’ll be set.
5. Attend office hours
It may seem daunting, but office hours are a great way to build a better rapport with your professors. Go in there with any and all questions you have, they’ll appreciate it.
6. Check out the gym facilities
Why not lie to yourself? It’s still the first week so feel free to dream up an ambitious gym schedule you’ll never keep up with.
7. Try out the cafeteria
More realistically, focus on your stomach and go check out the cafeteria’s offerings. It’s usually better priced and is of better quality than the vendors surrounding campus.
8. Join a club
If you feel like you want to be more immersed in campus life, why not join a student club or newspaper?
9. Be curious
Everyone needs to learn the urban myths that surround their campus and your senior peers will be excited to show off their knowledge. Go learn about the ghost in room 204.
10. Pet a cat
And expect a bite back.
11. Develop strong opinions on buildings
The business school is so ugly, no the economics department stinks, actually it’s the physics rooms which are terrible. Always a good conversation starter.
12. Judge people based on their majors
English? Nerd. History? Nerd. Engineering? Nerd. Economics? Nerd.
13. Hold a fashion show
If you’re not the best looking on campus then what’s the point?
14. Find the perfect route
Whether you’re driving or being driven there, it’s very important that you perfect the road you take to uni. When does traffic hit hardest? Where is parking easiest to find? Answer these questions and you’ll be golden.
