A funny (albeit troubling) video of a failed heist at Al-Anwar Library in the area of Doueir, Nabatieh has been making the rounds on social media. The video chronicles a jittery robber, dressed in all black and covering his identity with a face mask, pointing a gun at the teller and seemingly asking her to give him the money that’s in the register.
The best part of the video is the cold and almost dismissive stance the teller takes towards the robber. While he points the gun at her, sideways like he’s seen in the movies, she’s on her phone and seemingly confused by his demands.
The robber eventually gives up when another person enters the store, running out the door and leaving behind the small black bag he planned to transport the money in.
The video is a good reflection of the consequences of the economic crises in Lebanon. Economic need has forced the rise of a new robber class, this member of the class doesn’t seem to be equipped to carry out operations just yet. Unlike the two mean last year who managed to rob a store
