A Year In Review: Lebanon’s 2022 Basketball Triumphs

This year has been a memorable one for Lebanon’s sports teams as both the men and women’s national teams brought great pride to the country amid an excruciating crisis and a severe lack of funding.

The men’s Cedars basketball team became the Arab champions for the first time, and finished second in the Asian championship after playing an outstanding game against the Australian team. The team ranked 3rd in the world, losing only by 2 points.

On the youth level, the U18 national team also won the West Asian U18 championship after defeating Syria 85-59. The women’s U18 team also made it back to the AFC U18 Championship semifinals and is once again on the women’s “A” list.

The country will now compete for another spot in the World Cup on both the national and regional levels. There is no doubt that Lebanon’s basketball is entering a golden age, and we are extremely excited. After qualifying in 2002, 2006, and 2010, Lebanon will be taking part in the World Cup for the fourth time in its history.

The next game the team will play will be on February 24, 2023, against the Philippines. The year 2022 was one of the most successful in Lebanon’s basketball history, and now we have a team that many in the country are proud of.
