Medical Center In Bir Hassan Is Offering Free Chronic Illness Medications

The shortage in medications and their exorbitant prices that hit the medical and pharmaceutical sectors in Lebanon has left many patients who are suffering from chronic illnesses unable to find or afford their lifesaving medications.

In a bid to help those who are hardest hit by this ongoing crisis, The Naqaa Medical Center, in its recent collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health, will be distributing chronic illness medications for free.

The medications offered at the center include treatments for diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases, all of which either scarce or expensive in pharmacies all over the country.

The fluctuating dollar rate has left pharmaceutical companies unable to set a price for medications, and prices for medications are released on a daily basis depending on the exchange rate. In November 2021, subsidies were completely lifted off chronic illness medications, forcing the population to ration medications they can no longer afford.

Despite the individual efforts of many pharmacists, non-governmental organizations, and medical centers, the unavailability and unaffordability of medications will persist due to the devaluation of the Lebanese currency.
