Hailing from Lebanon’s Bekaa and working on NASA’s newest space exploration is Lebanese-American engineer Ali Ghosn. Back in the 1970s, Ghosn immigrated to the United States, earning degrees in mechanical engineering and business administration and eventually going on to work with NASA.
The brilliant engineer is now working on the Artemis program, which is the first use of NASA’s newly developed Space Launch System (SLS). The first of those missions consisted of launching an Orion spacecraft in late 2022, a project that Ghosn worked on.
The missions are set to increase in complexity as they go on, with Ghosn
remarking to Sky News Arabia that this mission was in preparation for the Artemis 3 project, which would actually see astronauts touch down on the surface of the moon. Ghosn also added that he was proud of the other Arab American engineers working on the team with him, and of Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi.
Ghosn’s exploits at America’s space administration is a wonderful representation of the Lebanese diaspora’s spirit. And for all of you always claiming that you have an uncle at NASA, well maybe we shouldn’t have
judged you so fast.
