UN Head Appoints Lebanese-American Ted Chaiban As UNICEF Deputy

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has appointed seasoned UN diplomat and Lebanese-American Edward “Ted” Chaiban as Assistant Secretary-General to serve as the Deputy Executive Director, Humanitarian Action and Supply Operations, for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Chaiban had previously served as UNICEF’s Global Lead Coordinator for COVID-19 Vaccine Country-Readiness and Delivery, among other roles. A Lebanese-American citizen, Chaiban was an alumna of Tufts University (Bachelor’s in Biology and Political Science) and Georgetown University (MA in Development and Arab Studies).

Before joining UNICEF, Chaiban had worked with Catholic Relief Services in Haiti, Kenya, Uganda and Sudan. Chiaban will be succeeding Fayaz King of Zimbabwe in his role, and we are proud to see Lebanese citizens continuing to thrive on the international scene.
