As tensions escalate in the region and in preparation for a potential “emergency situation,” Lebanon’s caretaker government is in the process of finalizing a series of agreements to ensure the continuity of telecom services in the event of a catastrophe.
As reported by Al Araby, one of these agreements is with Elon Musk’s satellite internet constellation, Starlink. In the event of a catastrophe that could compromise Lebanon’s internet services, the company would step in to provide coverage. The Minister of Telecom, Johnny Corm, hopes to present the finalized agreement to the cabinet in the coming week, thus securing an alternative connection to Lebanon’s existing submarine cable systems.
Amid the ongoing attacks on Gaza and the cutting of its internet services, many called upon Musk to activate Starlink to provide much-needed connectivity to the Strip.
Starlink will support connectivity to internationally recognized aid organizations in Gaza.

Corm also revealed that his team was working with Ogero, Alfa, and Touch to create contingency plans that would make sure that their transmission stations and generators would have access to fuel.
