‘Rizz’ Named Word Of The Year, Let’s Remember This Iconic Song

Oxford Languages just crowned ‘rizz’ as the Word of the Year for 2023 after it received a whopping 32,000 votes. The word was shortlisted among seven other words that their team of language experts select based on “the ethos, mood, or preoccupations of that particular year and to have lasting potential as a word of cultural significance”.

For those who aren’t articulate in Gen Z slang, the word rizz is short for “charisma”. It basically means “someone’s ability to attract another person through style, charm, or attractiveness”.

So now that we’re acknowledging ‘rizz’ is a word of cultural significance (though knowing the internet, it will die down and be replaced with something else in no time), we thought we would throw it back to the true definition of Lebanese rizz that has been around since 2010.

Of course, we’re talking about none other than the iconic “Jagal El Usek” song by Michelle Keserwany, which has over 2 million views on YouTube.

Even though the song was released over a decade ago, it makes the occasional comeback. Many people still make it their own on social media. Are we tired of seeing those videos? Yes. Will we sing along and watch them to the end? Also yes.
