Here’s A Round Up Of Important News You Might Have Missed

In case you missed it, we’ve rounded up some important news from this week.

1. Beirut’s beloved “Le Colisée Cinema” is getting renovated

Following the successful renovation and reopening of Tripoli’s iconic Ampere cinema after 28 years of closure, actor and director Kassem Istanbouli is now aiming to renovate “Le Colisée Cinema” located in the heart of Hamra, one of the oldest cinemas in the city!

2. Metropolis Cinema is coming back with two theaters and a cinematheque after 4 years of closure


Metropolis Cinema faced significant challenges during the economic crisis of 2019. After Empire Cinema in the Sofil Center closed, the association struggled to maintain its operations and eventually had to cease activities, marking a temporary conclusion to a splendid era in Lebanese cinema.

Fortunately, the association will soon open its own theaters and cinematheque this summer in Mar Mikhael, made possible by a generous donation of land from Unifoncière S.A.L.

3. Nadine Labaki joins the Cannes Film Festival jury for 2024

After being selected as a jury member for the Venice International Film Festival in August 2023, Lebanese director and screenwriter Nadine Labaki continues her feat as a jury member for the highly anticipated Cannes Film Festival. The jury will be presenting the Palme d’or award to one of the 22 film nominees on May 25.

4. The Jesuits Garden has been rehabilitated and reopened to the public

Beirut-based non-profit organization Beit El Baraka stepped in and rehabilitated the beloved public garden. The completion of this rehabilitation project marked a significant milestone in offering more green spaces in a city challenged by urban development.
