Comedian Shaden Fakih Under Fire For Jokes

Lebanese comedian Shaden Fakih finds herself amidst controversy yet again following her recent stand-up routine where she humorously touched upon aspects of the Muslim Friday prayer experience.

While eliciting laughter from some quarters, her jokes have sparked criticism from others, leading to discussions about the boundaries of comedic expression and religious sensitivities.

Subsequently, Dar Al-Fatwa’s Secretary submitted a claim to the public prosecutor against Fakih this morning, under the directive of Mufti Derian.


This isn’t the first time the comedian has faced scrutiny for her comedic material. In 2021, she was questioned by the cyber crimes unit of state security for a joke involving calling Internal Security Forces during the lockdown and asking how she can buy Kotex.


Now, with the threat of summoning once again, the incident underscores ongoing tensions between artistic expression and societal norms.
