Fadi El Khatib, the iconic Lebanese basketball player and owner of Champs Training Academy and Gym, has found himself in the eye of a legal storm. According to the media outlet Sharika wa Laken, El Khatib is facing serious allegations of alleged fraud, blackmail, and death threats stemming from a case filed by an unnamed victim.
The case revolves around claims that he blackmailed his victim. He demanded investments and property purchases from her, threatening to expose their relationship and release “private photos.”
The accusations are staggering. Reports suggest that the amount of money embezzled by El Khatib could total over $3 million. Following his refusal to attend interrogation sessions, Beirut’s First Investigative Judge Bilal Halawi issued an arrest warrant against El Khatib in absentia.
On December 30, 2024, the Public Prosecutor’s Office escalated the situation by circulating an international search effort to extradite El Khatib back to Lebanon. They forwarded the decision to the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces.
Fadi El Khatib, often referred to as “The Lebanese Tiger” for his stellar basketball career, has long been a revered figure in Lebanon’s sports scene. His transition into entrepreneurship with Champs Training Academy and Gym further solidified his influence.
As the case unfolds, it raises critical questions about accountability and justice in high-profile cases. The allegations against El Khatib are severe. The legal proceedings will undoubtedly attract widespread attention, both in Lebanon and internationally.
