First Portal Connecting Beirut and Dubai is Now Open!

Imagine walking into a club in Dubai and suddenly locking eyes with someone partying in Beirut. No, it’s not a fever dream or a sci-fi movie. Thanks to a newly installed “public technology sculpture,” nightlife lovers in both cities can now see and interact with each other in real time. These awesome portals have gained traction all around the world, and have now found their way to Beirut!

One of these high-tech windows is set up at House of Pop at Helipad – Dubai and the other at House of Pop at Grand Factory – Beirut, forming what’s being called a “visual bridge” between the two iconic cities. Whether you want to send a virtual cheers, scout the dance floor in another country, or—according to one TikTok user—“meet the love of your life”, the possibilities are endless.

Naturally, the internet had jokes. One comment warned, “Just tell Dubai people if the screen goes dark, it’s normal,” in reference to Lebanon’s notorious power outages, while another pondered, “Is this how I’ll finally find my soulmate?”
