ESMOD Students Turn Flowers into Fashion at Spinneys Flower Festival

On April 30, 2025, Spinneys’ annual Flower Festival took an unexpected turn, blending nature with fashion through the creative hands of ESMOD Beirut’s students under the theme “The Art of Flowers”.

Thanks to insights shared by Valeria Abou Ghazale, we got a closer look at how the students approached this creative challenge.

Instead of working with well-known designers, the event encouraged students to transform fresh flowers into statement pieces, pushing the boundaries of what fashion can be.

The students took this challenge, designing pieces that felt almost alive, capturing a fleeting beauty that couldn’t be replicated. Each design demanded careful construction, balancing creativity with the delicate nature of their materials.

“Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” The Devil Wears Prada

But this time, they were.

A Celebration of Creativity

The fashion show welcomed local influencers and industry figures, creating an atmosphere that was both welcoming and full of energy.

Among the attendees was Eric Mathieu Ritter, founder of Emergency Room, joined by his grandmother, fashion icon Hoda Ziade. Their presence, along with others from Beirut’s fashion scene, highlighted the support for new talent and experimental concepts.

By choosing students over established designers, Spinneys gave them a chance to test ideas in a setting beyond the classroom. These designs weren’t just about aesthetics, they pushed the boundaries of what fashion could be, using flowers in ways that felt unexpected yet expressive.

The result was a showcase that celebrated innovation in an entirely new way.

What Comes Next?

Beyond the floral designs, the event raised an interesting question: should fashion embrace more student-driven collaborations?

If young designers can transform flowers into statement pieces, what other unconventional materials could redefine how we think about clothing?

As the night was wrapped with music, conversation, and celebration, one thing was clear these students weren’t just experimenting with fashion. They were shaping its future, one idea at a time.
