The Ministry of Telecommunications is actively working to bring Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service, to the local market—potentially making Lebanon one of the next countries to join the high-speed global network.
According to sources inside the ministry, Starlink has officially shown interest in entering Lebanon. The company has already started the necessary legal and administrative steps for registration. Once those are complete, the file will be sent to the Council of Ministers for final approval, expected before the end of June.
Its integration into Lebanon’s telecom landscape could represent major developments in the country’s digital infrastructure. Starlink wouldn’t replace local providers but would act as a backup and raise the bar for service quality overall, especially during power outages or emergencies.
The expected monthly subscription is under $100, making it a potentially accessible option—especially for businesses and areas with poor connectivity. The ministry also expects this could generate revenue for the state.
A group of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) submitted a formal letter to Telecom Minister Charle Haj, citing technical, legal, and financial worries. They warn that Starlink could take up to 25% of their customers, while revenues from subscriptions would go abroad unless properly regulated.
Despite pushback, the ministry sees this as a step toward restoring Lebanon’s reputation as a hub for connectivity and tech investment in the region.
If all goes as planned, you might be streaming on satellite internet before summer’s end.
