Jbeil Public Beach’s New Rules: No Shisha, No Picnics, Swimsuits Required

The Municipality of Jbeil has introduced a new set of rules for its public beach under the title “Red Lines on the Blue Line.” They claim that their goal is to protect the area’s reputation as a clean, orderly, and family-friendly destination.

Key changes include a ban on shisha, a strict swimwear requirement, and new restrictions on food and beach furniture. The municipality says violations will lead to legal consequences.

1. Maintain order, cleanliness, and public decency on the beach.

2. Animals of all kinds are not allowed.

3. Shisha (argileh) is strictly prohibited.

4. Entering the sea or beach area is only allowed in proper swimwear.

5. All types of alcoholic beverages are banned.

6. Personal umbrellas, chairs, and tables are not permitted.

7. Only cold sandwiches are allowed—no food that requires preparation.

8. The beach is designated for swimming only.

9. Picnicking on the beach is not allowed.

10. Please clean up after yourself and dispose of waste in designated bins—do not leave trash on the beach.

The beach remains free and open daily from 7 AM to 8 PM. The municipality does not allow swimming after hours.

Despite reassurances that these changes serve the public’s best interest, many have raised concerns. Some argue that banning shisha and picnics restricts personal freedom. Others point out that the rules might pressure visitors to spend money at nearby vendors for food or seating.
