The Lebanese women’s basketball team is staying in Division A of the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup after a big 67–57 win over Indonesia this week in China.
This crucial win not only keeps Lebanon among Asia’s top-tier teams but also reflects the growing potential of a squad that continues to fight above its weight.
The standout of the night was veteran guard Rebecca Akl, who scored 26 points, including a clutch three-pointer in the final minute, and added 5 rebounds and 5 assists.
Lebanon had built a comfortable 17-point lead by the third quarter. Indonesia mounted a strong comeback, cutting the margin to just one point early in the fourth. Still, the Lebanese squad held their composure under pressure.
The result ensures that Lebanon stays in Division A, the elite bracket of the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup. Indonesia, on the other hand, will be relegated to Division B in the next edition of the tournament.
This marks Lebanon’s second consecutive appearance in Division A after their promotion in 2021. Congratulations!
