Metropolis Cinema in Mar Mikhael is hosting a special screening series dedicated to the powerful work of Lebanese filmmakers Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige! Here are the film you can catch this week.
Blending fiction, documentary, art, and archives, their films explore themes like memory, disappearance, exile, and resistance. This four-film program runs across two weekends and complements their current exhibition Remembering the Light at Sursock Museum, on view until September 4.

A day in the life of Malek, a young man who suffers from sleep disorders and is obsessed with thoughts of his ex-girlfriend. Meanwhile, his overprotective mother struggles with the disappearance of her husband, who was kidnapped more than 15 years ago during the civil war.
The film won both the FIPRESCI Prize and the Don Quixote Award at the Locarno Film Festival, and will be screened in the presence of actor Julia Kassar.

Je Veux Voir was selected for the prestigious Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival. The screening will take place on Tuesday, July 22 at 8:00 PM at Metropolis Cinema, with the directors and actor Rabih Mroué in attendance.
🎬 The Lebanese Rocket Society

From 1960 to 1966, a space project was undertaken in Lebanon. Several rockets, which became larger and more powerful with time, were launched from the hills surrounding Beirut by a group of scientists, university students and army experts. This group, led by Manoug Manougian, was called: The Lebanese Rocket Society.
The Lebanese Rocket Society won the Best Documentary Award at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival. It was also an official selection at major festivals including Toronto and San Sebastián.

The lives of three women are connected by a box that resurfaces containing notebooks, photographs and audiotapes.
Memory Box premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. It also won the Best Film Award at the Beirut International Film Festival.
