Unsold Restaurant Meals for Half the Price: Here’s How This Initiative Is Fighting Food Waste

In Lebanon, especially as the day winds down, restaurants often have plenty of fresh food left over that just wasn’t sold. Instead of letting all that good food go to waste, a new local initiative in Tripoli called Daymeh is stepping in to change the game.

Ever Heard of Too Good To Go?

If you haven’t come across it yet, Too Good To Go is a popular app abroad that’s all about fighting food waste. Restaurants and stores sell their food surplus at discounted prices.

It’s been a big hit in places like Europe and the US, helping millions save money and keep food out of the trash. Now, with Daymeh bringing a similar idea to Tripoli, Lebanon is joining the movement to fight food waste and enjoy good food for less.

Here’s How Daymeh Works

You hop on the Daymeh website and check out which restaurants have “surprise bags” ready. You pick one, pay online, and then swing by the restaurant to pick up your order during the designated time.

So, what’s in a “surprise bag”? It’s a mix of fresh dishes the restaurant didn’t sell that day. Could be a pasta plate, a sandwich, or a sweet treat, but it’s all still fresh and perfectly good to enjoy.

And the best part is that you get it for up to half price or even more.

It’s a win-win: restaurants reduce waste and losses, and you get a good meal for less.

But Daymeh isn’t just about saving money. It’s a chance to try new spots too! Since you never know exactly what you’ll get, it’s a chance to try food from places you might not have ordered from otherwise.

Right now, Daymeh is only operating in Tripoli, but here’s hoping it expands to more cities soon.
