The Lebanese fast food chain Dr. Kafta is reportedly under investigation after more than 80 people reported symptoms of food poisoning. Many of them linked their illness to meals ordered from the chain.
In response, the Ministry of Public Health shut down all Dr. Kafta branches pending further investigation. Health inspectors have started collecting samples and checking hygiene standards to identify the source of the complaints.
The controversy began on TikTok, where Kazadoo’s Reem Naoum publicly blamed Dr. Kafta for her daughter’s food poisoning. In a viral video, she shared that her daughter had been hospitalized for several days with a high fever after eating from the restaurant. Her story quickly gained traction, and others began posting similar experiences.
While no laboratory confirmation has been released yet, the volume of reports was enough to prompt swift action from the authorities.
Dr. Kafta’s menu features a range of Lebanese-style sandwiches, including kafta, soujouk, makanek, fatayel, and basterma. The chain also offers fries, desserts, and soft drinks.
Many are calling on the Ministry of Public Health to take stricter measures to monitor food safety standards across Lebanon. Social media users have urged the ministry to expand inspections, enforce tighter regulations, and hold restaurants accountable.
