Instagram Adds Repost, Friends Tab, and Location Sharing

Instagram has launched a new set of features aimed at helping you stay connected with your friends, starting with the long-awaited repost button. These features are being rolled out by region, so if they’re not available for you yet, just hang tight!

Repost Reels and Posts

instagram new features

Using the repost feature, you can now repost any public reel or feed post. These reposts will show up in your followers’ feeds and appear in a separate tab on your profile. It’s a simple way to share content you like without having to save it and re-upload it.

To repost something, tap the repost icon under a reel or post. A small bubble will pop up where you can add a note if you want, then hit save.

This update also benefits creators. When someone reposts your content, it can be recommended to their followers, even if those followers don’t follow you. It’s a new way for your work to reach a wider audience.

A New Friends Tab in Reels

Instagram also introduced a new “Friends” tab inside the Reels section. Here, you’ll be able to see what your friends have liked, commented on, reposted, or created. It’s an easy way to keep up with people you actually know and talk about the content you’re both watching.

Optional Location Sharing

Another feature rolling out is selective location sharing. You can now choose to share your location with specific friends using the Instagram map. It’s a more private way to let people know where you are without posting it publicly.

Instagram says these changes are part of a push to make the app more focused on real-life connections and shared interests. Others suggest that they are adopting some existing TikTok features to better compete with the addictive social media platform. The features are rolling out globally now.
