Lebanon’s Education Minister, Rima Karami, confirmed that public schools will follow a four-day school week for the upcoming academic year after an administrative meeting with Director General of Education Fadi Yarak and senior education officials.
To balance the reduced number of school days, class periods will return to 50 minutes, and the school day itself will be extended by an additional half hour. Karami hopes that this will be the last year the shortened schedule is necessary. Preparations are underway to ensure schools are ready when classes resume.
Earlier today, Karami briefed President Joseph Aoun on key issues. This includes teaching hours, staffing challenges in double-shift schools, and curriculum updates with the Educational Center for Research and Development.
She noted that the ministry is working to revise teachers’ salaries and develop a broader plan to tackle the financial and structural challenges facing Lebanon’s education sector.
Although the Ministry has not finalized the details of the new academic plan, Karami emphasized the importance of supporting both teachers and administrators to ensure a smooth and successful school year.
According to Karami, this plan will combine centralized standards with regional flexibility. It aims to create a more efficient and responsive school year across the country.
