Light in the Shadows of Ruin: Ali Chamsedine’s Latest Exhibition at ART DISTRICT is a Must-Visit
In a world scarred by war, Lebanese artist Ali Chamsedine envisions hope through his latest art exhibition in Beirut, a must-visit for art aficionados and anyone seeking a powerful reminder of the transformative power of creativity.
On view from September 25 until October 11 at ART DISTRICT, owned by Maher Attar, in Gemmayze, the exhibition is a meditation on survival, beauty, and the human spirit.
“In times of ash, when the earth burns and cities shatter beneath the hammers of the Gods of war, I turn to color as an act of life,” Chamsedine writes in his exhibition statement.
Rather than confronting evil in its raw, brutal form, he focuses on what remains. Those who endure, dream, and cling to hope amid devastation. The exhibition has already received rave reviews from critics, praising Chamsedine’s ability to transform tragedy into moving works of art.
Chamsedine’s canvases are vivid, abstract, and geometric, using bursts of color to battle against the violence and darkness they represent. Each piece invites viewers to witness resilience and the triumph of beauty over horror.
About the Artist
A graduate of the Lebanese University (BFA, 1982), Chamsedine has made a lasting mark on Arab cultural production. He has worked across painting, illustration, publishing, and design. He managed the Fekrah Foundation (2012–2016) and contributed to major newspapers and cultural projects in Lebanon and the Gulf.
His work in children’s publishing, including illustrations for Dar Asalah’s Who Am I series, earned him the UNESCO Award (1994) and the Sharjah International Book Award (1996).
With exhibitions across Lebanon, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia, Chamsedine continues to captivate audiences with his ability to transform devastation into vibrant, abstract beauty. Light in the Shadows of Ruin is a reminder that even in the aftermath of destruction, light endures.
