For the First Time in 30 Years: A Christmas Celebration in Baalbeck Ruins

After three decades without a Christmas celebration inside the iconic Baalbeck ruins, the city is finally welcoming back holiday chants and music.

On November 23, 2025, the Sancta Maria Choir will host an evening of prayer and Christmas hymns.

Under the patronage of Rola El Tawm, wife of MP Dr. Samer El Tawm, the celebration aims to revive Christmas traditions and bring them back to the heart of the ancient site.

Over the past year, enemy airstrikes damaged historic sites in the ancient city. The Qubbat Duris monument near the ruins sustained significant damage. A precious Ottoman-era house in Baalbeck’s Al-Manshieh neighborhood was destroyed. The attacks also damaged the century-old Palmyra Hotel, a symbol of Baalbeck’s golden era.

The return of Christmas celebrations brings more than just music. It pumps life back into the city, giving families and friends a reason to gather and enjoy the holiday spirit.
