Good news for North Lebanon: the Chekka tunnel is finally fully reopening on the Beirut–Tripoli highway via the Hamat–Chekka route, after years of partial closures.
The tunnel had been partially closed since 2019 due to previous rock collapses. This forced the western lane to remain shut while traffic in both directions shared the eastern lane. Daily congestion headaches have been the norm for years, but no more!
Well, maybe until after the holiday season.

Construction work is now complete, and the highway is open in both directions. To improve safety and prevent future collapses, the tunnel and surrounding mountain were reinforced, embankments were strengthened, and debris was cleared from the road.

With the western lane back in service, traffic should return to normal, and the Chekka Tunnel is now fully operational. Took them long enough…
