In a bid to finally regulate the “wild west” of valet parking, the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities alongside the Ministry of Tourism, has issued a circular (Decree No. 93) setting a strict ceiling on valet parking fees.
According to the official document, the maximum amount for valet parking services is now officially set at 400,000 LBP. Whether you’re dropping your car off for a quick coffee or a long dinner, that is the legal limit.
The decree specifically amends Clause 11 of the previous 2011 regulations. If you don’t get a receipt, or if they ask for more than the 400k cap, they are officially in violation of the law. Be sure to hold on to your ticket!
For too long, we’ve have dealt with inconsistent and haphazard pricing practices, with some valet services charging whatever they feel like depending on the car you drive or the neighborhood you’re in. This joint decision by Minister of Interior Ahmed El Hajjar and Minister of Tourism Laura El Khazen Lahoud aims to bring some much-needed order back to the streets.
