Amid the difficult circumstances Lebanon continues to face, the Ministry of Culture has launched a new initiative to support children and youth across Lebanon, opening public libraries in different regions for educational and recreational activities.
Called Maktabatouna Btejmaana (Our Libraries Bring Us Together) the wonderful initiative gives children access to safe, welcoming spaces where they can learn, create, and connect with their communities during what can only be described as an unbearably difficult time.
Participating libraries are hosting a variety of activities designed to encourage creativity and interaction, offering kids a calm, stable environment to just be kids. As more libraries join, the ministry encourages families to stop by and take part in the activities.
By activating public cultural spaces across Lebanon, the ministry ensures the displaced have access to meaningful activities and community connections. As the initiative rolls out, the ministry encourages families to visit participating libraries and join the organized activities.
Here are the libraries involved so far:
1. Centers of Reading and Cultural Animation (CLAC) in Qaa, Mansoura, Bikfaya, and Halba
2. Assabil Library in Monot & Geitawi
3. Bibliothèque De Mtein in Mtein
Make sure to follow the Ministry of Culture’s Instagram for updates as more libraries continue to join.
