After This Family Missed Burgers for Iftar, Restaurants Rally to Help the Displaced

As Lebanon navigates extremely challenging times, with thousands of families forced to flee their homes in moments of fear due to bombings and evacuation warnings, heartwarming stories emerge that remind us how the Lebanese people stand by one another.

Among these stories is that of a displaced woman from Dahye, who recounted how her family was gathered around the iftar table during Ramadan, preparing homemade burgers to break their fast before they had to abandon their home in a rush, leaving everything behind.

Despite it all, the woman was joking around with a smile that never left her face. She admitted that they did not get the chance to enjoy their iftar.

The story resonated with burger lovers, specifically the chefs at Gilbert’s Burger Bites (GBB) and EYT Burger. GBB offered to treat her entire family to burgers until the end of Ramadan, done exactly how they like it. Though they don’t think it will taste like home, they hope to make them feel as welcome as possible.

EYT Burger’s Chef Mario Hadded was also moved by the story and decided that he needed to contribute. He prepared and distributed about 250 Lebanese burgers to the displaced.

We love seeing people supporting the displaced, whether it be kind gestures, generous donations, or volunteer work. If you’d like to contribute, you can check out the #Support Lebanon section on our website. You’ll find all the initiatives you can donate to, as well as which ones need an extra hand.
