This Website Calculates the Percentage of Your Life Spent Living Through Wars in Lebanon

A new website is giving Lebanese people a stark perspective on their lives in violence. By simply entering your birthday, warsinlebanon.com calculates the percentage of your life spent living through wars, while also showing a detailed timeline of wars, historical events, and clashes that have shaped the country.

You can try it for yourself here.

A group of friends created the site to make sense of their own experiences. “We felt powerless watching our country get bombed,” they explain. “We thought about how much of our lives were lost to war.”

Visitors can explore the timeline to see how periods of conflict intersect with their personal history. The tool provides a visual way to reflect on the years shaped by instability, showing the cumulative impact of decades of unrest.

We inputted the date January 1, 2000 to see the results it would give us, and the website calculated the percentage of life spent living through conflict. Alongside the number, it displayed a detailed timeline showing how periods of unrest overlapped with those years. Those born in the year 2000 have lost approximately 38% of their lives to war, which adds up to almost 10 years.

Curious about an earlier generation, we also checked January 1, 1975. The website calculated 67.6% of life lost at war, which adds up to over 34 years.

The website also encourages community input. If you notice missing events, you can email mistake@warsinlebanon.com to help keep the timeline accurate and up to date.
