Great News: Zoukak Theatre Has Been Nominated for a Global Arts Award!

Some good news to start off the week! Lebanon’s beloved Zoukak Theatre has been nominated for the Global Arts Prize by the Global Leaders Institute for Arts Innovation, placing it among thousands of international nominations and spotlighting Lebanon’s contemporary theater scene on a global stage.

The Beirut-based collective has been one of Lebanon’s most influential independent stages, using performance as a way to spark conversation, challenge social norms, and create space for reflection through art.

The Global Arts Prize nomination recognizes organizations and artists contributing to innovation and impact in the arts. It’s also remarkable to see a local Lebanese theater collective shortlisted among thousands of international nominations, highlighting the impact Zoukak has built over the years both in Lebanon and abroad.

More about Zoukak

First established in 2008, Zoukak has become widely recognized for creating performances that blend theater with social engagement. It often tackles themes tied to identity, politics, memory, migration, and everyday life in Lebanon.

The collective has built a strong reputation both locally and internationally through its productions, workshops, educational programs, and collaborations.

Beyond the stage itself, Zoukak has also played an important role in supporting Beirut’s independent cultural scene. The collective has continuously pushed the idea that theater can be accessible, participatory, and deeply connected to society.

Although the iconic Beirut venue closed its doors, the collective continues to represent Lebanon’s independent theater scene around the world. Make sure to check out the #Lebanese Theater section on our website for more content like this!
