Stuff We Love

How Can You Support Families in South Lebanon Through Art at Mavia Bakery?

Gemmayze’s beloved Mavia Bakery is making room for something extra meaningful this fall alongside their fresh bakes. The women-led social enterprise is hosting an art fundraiser in support of families from South Lebanon, with illustrated postcards and stickers available for purchase at the bakery.

The initiative features artwork by @thurayyakhldizrk.ink, with all proceeds going directly to families who have been displaced for months or have returned to their villages and are trying to rebuild their lives.

Beautiful Watercolors

The collection includes hand-drawn illustrations in ink and watercolor, alongside a pixel-art series inspired by the landscapes, flowers, harvests, and cats of South Lebanon. Think almond blossoms, bougainvillea, jasmine, local produce, and little cat characters, all turned into charming keepsakes that celebrate the beauty of the South.

There are illustrated postcards, individual stickers, collectible sticker packs, and mystery packs featuring a mix of illustrations and pixel art. Minimum donations start at $3 for an individual sticker and $4 for a postcard, making it an easy way to pick up something lovely while contributing to a meaningful cause.

The fundraiser has already raised nearly $4,000 over the last few months, with funds distributed through trusted people in direct contact with families from South Lebanon.

A Little More About Mavia

Located on Gemmayze’s main street, across from GOU, Mavia Bakery is known for its naturally fermented sourdough, pastries, and seasonal brunches made with locally grown heirloom wheat. The women-led social enterprise works directly to promote local heirloom grains and build community through their bakes.

So, the next time you stop by for Mavia’s breakfast muffin loaded with crispy basterma and a runny egg, its clay pot with eggs and sujok, or one of its much-loved Friday-night pizzas, take a moment to browse the artwork and pick up a postcard or sticker.

A little art, a good bake, and a way to help families in the South.

Mavia opens Tue through Sat, 9 AM till 5 PM, with Friday night pizza running until 11 PM!
