Palestinian oud and kanoun player Huda Asfour is set to launch her new album “Mars – Back and Forth” at the Beirut Art Center.
Born in 1982 in Lebanon, Asfour has performed in Palestine, Lebanon, Egypt and the D.C. metropolitan area. She won the Al-Mawred al-Thaqaf foundation’s Production Awards Program for Young Creative Arab Artists in 2009.
Asfour calls the Mars album “a reflection [on my] personal journey between exile and the intifada. It is a musical autobiography documenting this period of my life. I seek to present music that is rooted in the Arabic repertoire but is able to speak to a modern audience simultaneously. It is also an attempt to break barriers between genres and a struggle to overcome the political borders that divide our region.”
