Hraïr Hratchian Live at Onomatopoeia

Performance includes a screening of “1885”, a film presented in the “Primal Images: Transmutations of a National Icon” exhibition, and produced by “The Canadian Cultural Centre in Paris” in collaboration with the McCord Museum in Montreal, 2004″.

Screening followed by a live performance of Hraïr’s solo pieces with the doudouk from the traditional Armenian repertoire and its liturgical chant, accompanied by ambient sounds.

About Hraïr Hratchian
Hraïr Hratchian (1971-) is a visual artist and musician.
He is presently working on a series of solo pieces interpreted with his main instrument, the doudouk (duduk), accompanied by atmospheric sounds.
He is the founder of De la Caucase (1998-2008), an experimental rock group,
in which he was the lead vocalist and doudouk player. With this band, he produced 2 albums: Tes Lèvres Sucrées and La mort cruelle de Marcel Léart.

He co-founded the group La Désunion (2010-), characterized by improvisational sounds.
He presented the piece Veratartsir (2009) in collaboration with singer Maica Mia and the piece Bardézoum Vart ér Patvadz (2013) directing a choir composed of eight musicians.
Hraïr Hratchian was invited to play the doudouk for the group Einstürzende Neubauten by collaborating on the piece Armenia as well as for a series of improvisations (Rampe) in the context of their Perpetuum Mobile tour (2004), 25th anniversary tour (2005) and Three decades of Einstürzende Neubauten tour (2011).

He also participated on projects and tours as a doudoukist and vocalist with the New-York saxophonist Matana Roberts (2011), Sam Shalabi (2009), canadian group Esmerine (2013-2014) and et on Jerusalem in my Heart projects (2009-2010).
