6 Fun and Exciting Ways to Deal With Stress in Beirut

If you live in or around Beirut and have experienced traffic, power cuts, water shortages, or garbage floods (or probably all of the above) you know that life can get unbearably stressful… all the time. Here are a few new and exciting ways to cope with the stress that comes with living in Beirut.

1. Adult coloring

Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it! I’ve been coloring for a couple of months now and it’s surprisingly really, really relaxing. You can find coloring books at your nearest bookstore or, you can visit Joon on the Moon that hosts adult coloring nights regularly including this one coming up soon!

2. Try Yoga

It’s not just about the sexy yoga pants – yogis are taking over! It’s more than just a couple of twists and bends, but an hour or so of serenity and some serious relaxation that is surprisingly good for you. There are gyms and yoga centres all over the city that offer yoga sessions. Casper & Gambini’s also hosts a yoga brunch every now and then.

3. Go Jogging!

While we may not have the infrastructure to support many outdoor activities, there are many places around Beirut that you can enjoy a morning jog at. Zaytounay Bay, Raouche, Marina Dbayeh, Horsh Beirut, Sanayeh Gardens and many more are gems that we often forget about. You’ll catch sporty individuals jogging and training there at almost all hours of the day, so you won’t feel too out of your depth! Forget a gym membership, throw on your sneakers and go, go go!

4. Escape the city

Many families have a second home outside of Beirut and if you don’t, your friends probably do. Alternatively, we have suggested a couple of road trips you can take, to Sannine and to Sour to get away for a day.

Insane views, delicious food and peace and quiet – you’re a home away from home.

5. Go on an adventure

There are lots of adventurous things to do in this small country. Round up a few friends and lots of junk food and just drive. Alternatively, you can check out events on Facebook for adventure junkies such as cycling across the coast of Batroun, surfing or a hiking. Vamos Todos always has exciting hikes planned to places like Tannourine, Baakline, and Arz.

6. Shooting

In case numbers one to five don’t tickle your fancy, you can always resort to shooting. No, we don’t mean an actual person. You can visit an organized and safe shooting range such as the Lebanese Army Shooting Club, or Kaslik Gun Club and blow off some steam with a loaded rifle.
