The Lebanese film industry seems to be divided into two categories. The first category includes masterpieces such as Where Do We Go Now by Nadine Labaki, however the second category has us questioning whether we can ever get that hour and a half back.
Out tomorrow is Lebanese movie Ma7bas which tells a tale about a girl who fell in love with a Syrian man in Dubai. Following this story from the eyes of the mother, Therese, who the wife of a mayor of a small village in Lebanon, this movie exposes us to realistic situations and prejudices very much alive in Lebanese society.
A story of strong emotion, Ma7bas has already received praise from Annahar for “ushering the dawn of what is hopefully going to be a new age of Lebanese cinema”.
We certainly hope these high hopes are to be met, particularly in a global arena.
