The Open Source Meetup by Keeward

Wednesday, Oct 18, 2017
6:30pm -> 8:30pm

As part of the local community empowerment efforts, Keeward is organizing its fourth Open Source Meetup on the roof of building 1075 at the Beirut Digital District.

The event will include three speakers:

Stephane Bazan – Blockchain for dummies
Everybody talks about blockchain. It’s a fundamental technology that underlines Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. But if you let a tech person tell you about it, you will never really understand. This presentation will be jargon-free and will give you anything you need to know about blockchain: why it has become so popular and why it could even improve our political system.

Nicolas Charabaty – Data Indexing (Search)
We live in a world where having data and related data is important in the development of your product. However, data loses its importance if you cannot access it quickly. Several open source libraries are designed for such purpose, most famous one being Lucene.

George Helou – Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Technologies
To really understand what is special about Bitcoin, we need to understand how it works at a technical level. We’ll address the important questions about Bitcoin, such as:
How does Bitcoin work? What makes Bitcoin different? How secure are your Bitcoins? How anonymous are Bitcoin users? What determines the price of Bitcoins? Can cryptocurrencies be regulated? What might the future hold?
