New Must-See Lebanese Film ‘Martyr’ To Be Released This Week
Written and directed by Mazen Khaled and produced by Diala Kachmar, the new film Martyr tells the story of a young man who tragically drowns in Beirut. This leads his friends, all of whom hail from different parts of the community, to grapple with this loss each in their own way.
Starring Hamza Mekdad, Hadi Bou Ayash, Carole Abboud, Rashad Nasreddine, and Moustafa Fahs, the drama movie had the distinct honor of premiering at the Venice Film Festival in 2017 and SXSW (South by Southwest). It will open in theaters across Lebanon later this week.
The 82-minute film explores themes of grief, martyrdom, and sexuality. With music by the likes of Zeid Hamdan and Vladimir Kurumilian, the soundtrack is just as exceptional as the dialogue and the acting.
The film was nominated for the Queer Lion award at the Venice Film Festival.
This is Khaled’s second feature film, the other being A Petty Bourgeois Dream (2016).
