Superstar Ragheb Alameh Threatened Following Release Of New Song

With his newly released song, Lebanese superstar Ragheb Alameh took a stance on the dwindling situation of the country. Titled “Tar El Balad” which roughly translates into “the country is gone”, the song sheds light on how Lebanon is now “lost” and “collapsed”, citing things like rampant immigration, deprivation, and poverty.

While Ragheb delivers a powerful and much-needed message, MP Hekmat Dib, part of the Free Patriotic Movement parliamentary bloc, took offense and was intensely critical of the song.

During an interview on OTV, and when asked about the song the MP said: “Tar el balad, hayda lezem ytir raso”, accusing the superstar of being “irresponsible”.

The MP’s statement provoked public outrage, with his choice of words bringing up references of “Daesh”.

Consequently, citizens took to Twitter to express their solidarity with Alameh, trending the #متضامن_مع_راغب_علامة hashtag.
