Meet The First Lebanese Woman To Work On Lebanon’s Offshore Gas Exploration

The oil and gas industry workforce has long been dominated by men. Luckily, today more women are choosing a rewarding career in the industry and killing it too.

Meet Sara Boustany, a fresh graduate in Petroleum Engineering from the Lebanese American University, who is the first (and only) woman working aboard the rig on Lebanon’s first-ever offshore gas exploration.

Boustany is the Operations Engineer at the drill rig that lay off the coast of Beirut and the only woman on a team of 160 employees.

In an interview with the Lebanese Oil and Gas Initiative, Boustany shared more about the challenges she faced being the only woman on the ground in this field.

“It’s an enjoyable experience even though there are challenges, especially as a woman due to the very masculine culture and values,” she said.

Boustany’s impressive stride in this pioneering industry is encouraging more and more women to take advantage of the exciting opportunities offered offshore. She’s an inspiration!
