According to the
National News Agency, the Director of the PCR Lab in Zahle’s Public Hospital has been arrested for discrepancies in test results.
Details state that Dr. Q.Y was responsible for running the laboratory for PCR testing in President Elias Hrawi Governmental Hospital, and was taken in as per an appeal issued by the public prosecutor in Bekaa.
This comes after conflicting test results issued by the hospital, which according to Firas Abiad, manager of Rafic Hariri University Hospital, can happen in medicine.
In response to the arrest, he tweeted: “False positive results do happen in medicine. Occasionally, they are the result of human error. That this requires an investigation and improvement to the system is understood. That this results in an arrest before even the investigation is out is astonishing.”
In turn, the hospital released an official statement on the subject matter.
Loosely translated, it reads:
“The administration of President Elias Hrawi Governmental Hospital in Zahle condemns what has happened in the past few days, especially the public statements and stances. The administration understands the confusion and blame caused by the issued results, but does not understand the deliberate infringement on an official institution that is performing a public service, and that always has and always will be at the front defense line, protecting the area and its citizens since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. The hospital administration frowns upon the moral transgression against this health facility. Therefore, this file will be placed in the hands of the Ministry of Public Health and concerned judiciary to clarify all circumstances. PCR testing will also be put on hold for 72 hours.” What do you think? Is the arrest justifiable?
