Heartbreaking Interview With Alexandra Najjar’s Father: “My daughter is not a martyr, she’s a victim”
Remember her name. Alexandra Najjar, the 4-year-old angel who succumbed to her wounds and passed away after the devastating blast that rocked Lebanon’s capital.
Alexandra was at home in Gemmayze with her family when the explosion went off, its sheer force threw her and caused her to hit her head. After several days of fighting for her life, she took her last breath, leaving behind a grief-stricken family and a broken nation that is not sure how to get her justice.
Local channel LBCI aired an interview with her father who spoke bravely and said that his daughter is not a martyr, but rather a victim of the ruling class’ negligence and corruption.
“They killed her where I thought I was keeping my family safe”, he said. “At home.”
Pictures of Alexandra holding a Lebanese flag proudly posing in Martyrs’ Square during the October 17 revolution are circulating on social media, with people calling on each other to hit the streets in her memory.
Alexandra is one of more than 150 victims whose lives were claimed by the blast. More than 6,000 people were injured, 300,000 families homeless, and tens more who are still missing without a trace.
Our sincerest condolences go out to all these families. May you never be forgotten, and may we find a way to get a semblance of justice.
