As the Lira continues to lose its value against the dollar, the minimum wage still stands at a meager 675,000LL. Basic necessities are bound to get more expensive as the dollar continues to fluctuate, leaving most of the population in limbo.

Over the past year, the price of basic commodities has increased by more than 13 fold, here are some figures.

1. Two and a quarter tanks of fuel for your car

Currently priced at 302,000 LL 🙂

2. Half of a wisdom tooth removal

Costing around 1,000,000 LL – so you would also be very short.

3. Three kilos of meat

Currently priced at 200,000 LL per kilogram.

4. Two Variety Meal buckets from KFC

One bucket currently costs 319,000LL.

5. Two bottles of Augmentin syrup

Each for 290,000 LL.

6. Three tanks of cooking gas

One tank costs around 210,000LL.

7. Three bottles of 3L vegetable oil.

Currently priced at anywhere between 190,000 LL – 210,000 LL.

8 . Ten cartons of eggs

A pack of twelve eggs costs anywhere between 50,000 LL and 60,000 LL.

9. Twenty-five cans of tuna

With slight differences depending on the brand.

10. Fatouret el moteur

Depending on amperes and your location.

11. Six cans of Cerelac baby food

Currently priced at 105,000 L.L each.

12. A pair of jeans from Zara

With an average retail price of 660,000LL.

13. Ten chicken nugget meals from McDonald’s

Each for 70,000 LL. And you’d still come up short.
