The Saudi-owned broadcaster MBC Group announced yesterday the closure of its offices in Beirut, revealing that they would be relocating to KSA. Staffers were reportedly asked to choose between to relocating to Riyadh or submitting their resignations.
According to Sawt Beirut International, the company said the move was a result of plans by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to relocate all state-owned media and broadcasting companies to Saudi Arabia. Moreover, they have been reportedly asking international companies to move their regional headquarters to its capital or lose out on government contracts.
News of this relocation comes just one day after the Lebanese Minister of Information and former MBC presenter Georges Kordahi caused controversy due to comments he made about the war in Yemen, calling it ‘absurd’.
