Renewed Campaign Calls for Equal Citizenship Rights for Lebanese Women

A renewed campaign is calling on Lebanese lawmakers to amend the nationality law and finally give women the same rights as men to pass citizenship to their children.

Lebanese activists, alongside MP Cynthia Zarazir, are calling for an end to decades of discrimination. They’re demanding that Lebanese mothers be allowed to pass citizenship to their children.

Right now, Lebanon’s nationality law only grants automatic citizenship to children of Lebanese fathers. Lebanese women currently cannot pass citizenship to their children, leaving thousands in legal limbo.

This discriminatory law limits access to education, healthcare, and jobs, highlighting a clear gender inequality in the country’s nationality system.

This is not merely a bureaucratic adjustment, but a crucial step toward justice, equality, and the protection of fundamental rights. Hopefully, this campaign calling for the right for women to pass down Lebanese citizenship to their children will progress and finally be heard by lawmakers.
