Amazing News: Jounieh’s Old Souk Goes Car-Free on These Days

Jounieh’s municipality has announced that the Old Souk will go pedestrian-only on weekends, making it a lot safer (and nicer) to walk around.

The new schedule, starting this Friday, is from 7 PM until 4 AM on Friday nights and then continuously from 7 PM Saturday until 4 AM Monday, effectively keeping the area vehicle-free all weekend.

The change gives pedestrians room to move freely and lets local businesses operate in a calmer environment. It also eases traffic in Jounieh’s waterfront area, which has long struggled with congestion at the busy intersection of the coastal highway and the lively souk, known for its nightlife, dining, and shopping.

Pedestrian-only hours are designed to make weekends safer and more enjoyable, especially during the busiest times.

This initiative fits within broader efforts to manage traffic and public space more effectively in Jounieh. Back in August, the municipality removed illegal kiosks from the Jounieh highway ahead of a major expansion project.
