From Jun 29 to Jul 8, 2011
Metropolis Empire Sofil

The Metropolis Association is celebrating its 5 years by continuing the partnership established with the Critics’ Week, which opened the Metropolis Theater on the 11th of July 2006, one day prior to the Israeli war on Lebanon.

The Critics’ Week has just celebrated its 50th anniversary during the 64th Cannes Film Festival, which was held between the 11th and the 22nd of May 2011. It is the oldest and most exigent section of the festival and its main objective is to discover and defend the young cinematographic creation while screening the first works of emerging filmmakers. It is through the Critics’ Week that several acclaimed filmmakers have been revealed, including Ken Loach, Wong Kar-Wai, Jacques Audiard, Gaspar Noé and François Ozon.

Arab filmmakers have also participated in the Critics’ Week, including Algerian filmmakers Merzak Allouache and Nassim Amaouche, Palestinian filmmakers Hany Abu Assaad and Lebanese artist Bassem Breich.
