Attend the play, “Passeport N°10452” by Betty Taoutel and Hagop Der Ghougassian at Monnot Theatre.
In a small country of 10,452 km2 and ravaged by 30 years of war, a family is torn apart by identity issues related to membership, country, language and migration.
Omar grew up in an unstable Lebanon with political tension and perpetual conflict between the various political and religious factions. Stay or leave? Try his luck in Montreal in order to get that coveted Canadian passport? Leave the homeland to feel safe and ensure a better future for hischildren? These are the questions that torment Omar’s wife who is trying to convince her husband – especially herself – that they need to move to this city on the other side of the globe.
Between the idealized dreams of those who want to leave and the harsh realities often experienced by immigrants in a new country, Betty Taoutel portrays, with humor and poignancy, the lives of citizens uprooted from Beirut to Montreal.
