The American University of Beirut is hosting a live performance by Sami Hawat called “Nomadic Music, a journey with probable melody”. The concert will take place at Assembly Hall.
Sami Hawat is a Lebanese artist, born in Jbeil, in 1956. He is considered as a pioneer of the political song in the Arab world and a strong advocate of committed art. Hawat is known for his political commitment. He sings about social class differences, poverty, religious extremism, forbidden love, and everyday problems. He sings the lyrics of well-known poets as was the case for ‘AL Amel’ and ‘Ahl Al Maghna’ written by Bayram Ettounssi, ‘Beirut Al Kobra’ written by Abidou Bacha, and ‘Lara’ written by Ghassen Matr.
Tickets: 30,000 LL and 15,000 LL for students upon presentation of student ID
All proceeds will go to support the Zaki Nassif Program for Music at AUB.
