Semaine de la Critique at Metropolis Cinema

The Metropolis Association and the French Institute of Lebanon are pleased to present like every year in the month of July, the annual rerun of the Semaine de la Critique – Cannes 2013 in Beirut.

10 feature films and 11 shorts, which were presented during the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, will be screened during this rerun in Beirut.

The Semaine de la Critique will open with the French film “Suzanne” by Katell Quillévéré who will travel to Beirut to present her film. “Suzanne” tells the powerful story of two close sisters and had a very warm welcome after its screening at the Croisette.

This selection involves several works that were highly praised by the press and the public such as the touching film “The Lunchbox”, the first feature of Indian filmmaker Ritesh Batra, the moving “Le Démantèlement” by Canadian filmmaker Sébastien Pilote which won the SACD prize at Cannes and the Argentinian film “The Owners (Los Duenos)” by Augustin Toscano and Ezequiel Radusky which received the special mention grand prix Nespresso of the Semaine de la Critique. For those in peril, an otherworldly tale that meets social realism, tells the story of a young man’s struggle as a sole survivor of a shipwreck. “The Major” is an upsetting Russian thriller set against the backdrop of corruption.
